An overgrown and disused eyesore in Swan Path has been cleared up by criminal offenders and staff from McDonald’s.
Offenders ordered to do hours of community service cleaned up the path as part of the community payback project during the week of June 7.
Gary Adams, McDonald’s franchisee, said: “It’s great to be part of a community initiative such as this and I think if we all play our part and join together we can create a cleaner, greener Kingston.
“We’re delighted to support Capital Clean-up again this year and work together with police to improve the local environment.
“We look forward to seeing the Swan Path project develop over the next few months.”
Sergeant Dave Williams, from Grove safer neighbourhood team, said: “My team have been working hard to get this area of land cleared as soon as possible.
“We’ve been really impressed by the support given by the community payback teams, McDonald’s and the Kingston Council rangers who have all got involved.
“Once the land is cleared we will be working closely with King Athelstan Primary School, which is very close to the site, to turn this land into a useable and sustainable facility for the schoolchildren to benefit from.”
