Girls from 9th New Malden guides were the icing on the cake when they provided a surprise guard of honour for their assistant leader, Rhian Lewis, when she married Robin Kidd at Lovekyn Chapel this month.

The ceremony at the Grade II listed building took place in front of friends and family on Saturday, June 5, six years after the couple first met on matchpoint.com.

Mrs Kidd, a community nurse in Epsom, said they got on really well after their first meeting and knew they would get married, but “there was not anything big or champagne” when they finally decided to tie the knot.

Mrs Kidd has been with the 9th New Malden guides since January 2009, while her husband is a software engineer at Yamaha.

Mrs Kidd said: “It was beautiful. Lovekyn Chapel is really lovely, and we had a champagne reception in the courtyard. It’s such a pretty venue, and when we booked last year it was 700 years old. It was just so pretty outside and it’s nicer than going to a register office.

“Having the girls there was a lovely surprise. There were lots of comments about how good they were.”
