Chief executive Phil Alexander cannot wait for the new era at Crystal Palace to get going.

The 47-year-old has worked for the Eagles for 14 years so has already experienced the club under three different chairman, Ron Noades, Mark Goldberg and Simon Jordan.

He is now starting life under new co-chairman Martin Long and Steve Parish and is excited about what the future holds.

"It's a new era for the club and I'm delighted it has taken the shape it has and we cannot wait to get going," he said.

"The situation we were in was getting shaky.

"I knew the guys who were buying the club and had a hand in introducing some of them and I was absolutely sure the club had to be taken over and had to be saved.

"I was so impressed with the energy and tenacity shown by the four, particularly Steve Parish who did a brilliant job in negotiating the ground and the club and I am absolutely thrilled we are here."

Alexander confirmed there were a lot of applications for the manager's job at Palace and believes they have the right man in George Burley with Dougie Freedman as his assistant.

"There was a lot of interest but there is going to be as its a good job to have," he said.

"We had to look at all the various options available to us and what we wanted in the business and George ticked all the boxes.

"Having Dougie along at the same time was a key part of it."
