A man pushed in the river by his friend who then got abusive to police was fined by Kingston Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, June 10, for being drunk and disorderly.
Michael Matwij, of Englehart Drive, Feltham, had been drinking when his friend pushed him in the river outside Bar Haha, Kingston.
Patrolling officers witnessed the 22-year-old being loud, close to the river's edge, and watched as his friend pushed him in, at about 4.20pm.
They warned him that the shouting was unacceptable and told him to leave the area, but the pair returned soon after and Matwij was arrested.
Matwij said he was only following his friend back to the area, and told the court: “I ran off after my friend to stop him getting arrested and ended up getting arrested myself. I was very disappointed that the police arrested me.”
He was handed a total fine of £165, which included prosecution costs and a victim surcharge.
