Police have lifted the exclusion zone in New Malden after a series of tests carried out on a suspect package.
The package was deemed non-threatening and cordons, which at one point extended from the Fountain roundabout to Penrith Road and Blagdon Road, have been removed.
The area was opened to traffic at 4.30pm, but long traffic delays were expected to continue through the rush hour.
One commuter, driving through Worcester Park, said the traffic was moving well at 5.45pm.
Residents initially warned to stay indoors, as police believed they were dealing with a chemical incident, are safe to leave.
