If you were watching the recent Queen’s Tennis Championships on the BBC last weekend you may have noticed the immaculately turned out ball girls.

But did you know that each year all the ball girls used for the tournament come exclusively from St Philomena’s High School and Nonsuch High School?

Both schools provide 50 girls each between 13-15 and the selection process is as detailed as Wimbledon or any other major tournament.

The girls start training once a week from September and are selected based on their balls skills, co-ordination, stamina, concentration and speed.

Dee O’Reilly, deputy prinicpal at St Philomena’s, said: "We've been providing ball girls at Queen’s, formerly known as the Stella Artois Championships, for the last 18 years.

"But we are extremely proud of the girls as the always do a first class job.

"Some of the girls, if they are good enough, get the chance to come back for a second year."
