A young Battesea rugby fan got a chance to step on to the sport’s hallowed turf at Twickenham last week and meet former England captain Lawrence Dallaglio OBE.

Ramsay Veitch, from Wandsworth, joined 100 fellow rugby players aged between 6 and 18 for the Sacla National Training Day, and the England great was impressed by what he saw.

Mr Dallaglio said: "The quality of rugby on display today has been fantastic and a testament to all the young rugby players who have taken part.

"Who knows, we may have unearthed some real stars for the future.

"I hope that I have been able to pass on some of the skills required to reach the very top of the game as well as the core values of rugby - including respect, enjoyment, discipline, sportsmanship and teamwork."

Ramsey, who is aged nine and plays for Battersea Ironsides Rugby Club, said he enjoyed the experience.

He said: "It was an excellent day, my favourite part was running through the tunnel out on the pitch, I felt like a real England player."

Sacla supports more than 100 grass roots festivals in the UK.
