England fans were out in force in Sutton on Saturday night as Fabio Capello’s men put the nation through the mill once again.
Bars and pubs in Sutton High Street were packed out with St George’s crosses and flags in anticipation of a much-needed win against the USA.
The Cock and Bull, the Sutton Arms and The Treasury Bar were all full of fans put through the full range of emotions usually associated with England games - over-confidence and elation followed by despair.
Despite an early goal from skipper Steven Gerrard, England weakly surrendered their lead just before half-time when keeper Robert Green’s goalline blunder allowed the USA to equalise.
Police reported little trouble in the town centre on Saturday and hope the good mood continues through England next match against Algeria on Friday night.
