There has been another attempted child abduction in the borough.

Police are appealing for witnesses following an allegation of an attempted abduction.

On Friday, June 11 at 3.30pm on Coombe Rd, a man in a white van approached an 11-year-old girl and tried to force her into the van.

He grabbed her but the girl got away, however, she was unable to give a good description of him.

Police have now received a total of three allegations of attempted abductions on the borough in the last month, however they say they are not linking any of the incidents at this stage.

Borough commander, chief superintendent, Adrian Roberts said: “We have previously asked the public to come forward with information regarding two other allegations and as yet, have not received a single phone call stating that a person witnessed these events.

“We are appealing again to the community to come forward and assist us, with any information, no matter how small that may be that will help us with these investigations.

“I understand that the community has been deeply concerned by these allegations and I want to reassure parents that we take these incidents extremely seriously and are conducting vigorous enquiries.

“We maintain extra patrols in the borough and would remind the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to us.”

Last week a false report of an abduction in New Addington sparked a boroughwide manhunt for the alleged kidnappers.

However, after additional witnesses came forward it was discovered to have been a false alarm.

Chief Supt Roberts said: "The recent speculation has also led to a false report of an abduction in the New Addington area.

"I cannot stress enough how mis-information can lead to diverting police resources away from genuine allegations."
