Teachers at Chestnut Grove School helped local primary school children exhibit work at the Pump House Gallery last month.

Staff at the newly refurbished gallery curated the show, comprised of self portrait montages and story books.

The story book project was delivered by book maker, Jen Pearce and Chestnut Grove School’s artist in residence Emma Smith.

Students created stories about an imaginary animal who lives in their hometown, at presented them using illustration and traditional book binding methods.

Parents and students marvelled at the work, created by pupils at nine Wandsworth primary schools.

These were Wix, Henry Cavendish, Alderbrook, Trinity St Marys, Swaffield, Sacred Heart, Richard Atkins, Hitherfield and Rosendale schools.

Henry Cavendish students won a prize of £300 of art equipment donated by Chestnut Grove for the most innovative and creative project.

Chestnut Grove, a specialist art secondary school in Balham, provides an annual program of art training for primary school teachers.
