Unwanted electrical appliances can be handed in and exchanged for entry into a prize draw during National Recycle Week.

From June 21-25 any electrical appliance under 10kg will be accepted at collection points around Sutton.

The appliances will either be recycled or refurbished by the charity Appliance Reuse Centre (Arc).

Those taking part will have the chance to win prizes donated by BatteryBack, Waitrose and Storm Environmental.

Cllr Colin Hall, Executive Member for Environment and Climate Change on Sutton Council, said: “This is a win-win situation - residents will have convenient places to get rid of their unwanted appliances and thanks to the work of Arc, a number of these appliances will be given a new lease of life and donated to the less well off.”

Other items such as books, CDs, DVDs, computer games and household batteries will also be accepted.

Books, CDs, DVDs and computer games will be donated to the British Heart Foundation and batteries will be given to ‘Battery Back’ for recycling.

Collection points will be open from 10am to 2pm on the following dates: Monday June 21 – Waitrose car park, Worcester Park Tuesday June 22– Wallington Library car park Wednesday June 23 – Wrythe Lane, junction with Robertsbridge Road (opposite St Helier Hospital car park) Thursday June 24 – Sutton High Street, junction with St. Nicholas Road Friday June 25 – The Broadway, Cheam, outside Whitehall Electrical items can also be recycled at the Kimpton Park Way Recycling Centre.
