Football fans can check their match fitness against opponents from around the world thanks to a new tool on the NHS website.
Competitors start off with a short fitness test to gauge their ‘transfer value’, which can be boosted through daily online challenges to help get their chosen team to the top.
Gavin Marsh, medical director at Mayday Hospital, said: "During the World Cup we'll see some of the fittest and healthiest people in the world playing football.
"Hopefully this will inspire people to get active – whether they try a new port for the first time, join a local football team or take part in any other form of exercise.
"Keeping fit and healthy is easier than you think. Start by making simple changes to your life, eat more fruit and veg, and try to be physically active for at least 30 minutes a day, at least five days a week – it’s easier than you think."
The application will be available on Facebook, from iTunes and online at www.nhs.uk.
