A window into Wandsworth’s amazing history is to be created by a new website displaying old postcards.

The site is part of an interactive local history venture called Personal Heritage Postcards.

The scheme has been designed by local artist Holly Gramazio, working with the council’s arts teams and library and heritage service.

Residents are invited to visit the site where they can take part in an online quiz - similar to a personality test - which matches them to a Wandsworth history story.

Shortly afterwards they will receive an illustrated Heritage Postcard delivered to them in the post including an account of the episode.

The Wandsworth stories have been researched by local groups and volunteers and sourced from archives, reminiscence groups, historical story collections and personal experiences.

The illustrations have been newly commissioned from local artists.

Each tale features interesting people, events or attractions which took place in Wandsworth over the last 500 years.

Ms Gramazio said: "I think that if you know about historical events which took place in the area you live, it makes you feel more involved and invested in the place.

"It can also alter the way you think about its possibilities for the future.

"For me, knowing about my local history helps give me a sense of ownership in my environment."
