Friends and family members of a murdered father of three gathered for a vigil to celebrate his life in the road where he was shot.

Wesley Blake was just 27 when he was gunned down as he sat in a car in St Saviours Road in May last year.

The father of two was expecting his third baby with partner Aisha Mitchell who was five months pregnant when she found out he had been shot in the chest and killed.

In March, the two men accused of murdering Mr Blake walked free from court after a jury found them not guilty.

On Tuesday, May 18, dozens of his his friends and family lit candles and released lanterns to mark a year since his untimely death and to let his killers know they will not rest until they get justice.

They remembered Mr Blake with a prayer and told stories about happier times they had shared with him into the night.

He was, his sister said, killed for doing the honourable thing and stepping in to defend a women, something he had always done.

His sister, Keisha Jean Pierre, said: “A year has now passed and I miss him very much. It’s hard for me to go to sleep at night because I think about him and his beautiful children, especially the baby he has never met.

“I pray for my mum and dad because they find it hard to go on in life. One day we will get justice.”

Mr Blake had been visiting St Saviours Road to see a friend but when he realised he was not there he called him and was told he was on the bus and would be there within minutes.

Miss Mitchell said: “I dearly miss Wesley and I feel like I can never rest until his killers are brought to justice and neither can our family. I feel like the pain will never go away.

“Our children have been robbed of a loving father and the man who cared and provided for us. It’s heartbreaking to think our youngest will never get to see him unless it is in pictures and all he will have is stories told to him from the family.”
