The Mayor’s charity has provided £22,200 to fund a new specialist Parkinson’s disease nurse for Sutton and Merton.
This initiative started in 2007 by Councillor Myfanwy Wallace while she was a Mayor, but the remaining funding for the post has only recently been secured.
Coun Myfanwy Wallace, said: “A specialist Parkinson’s Disease nurse will be a great asset for the borough. It will help to alleviate some of the distress that people with Parkinson’s endure and give much need support to those who care for them.”
The nurse will provide tailored treatment and support to people with Parkinson’s, as well as information for their carers. This can result in a wide-range of benefits such as a reduction in hospital admissions, prevention of unnecessary referrals to consultants and better management of medication.
