The Unofficial Ladies 5-a-side Tournament is run annually by Julie Syer and Vijay Beekarry of Regents Park Rangers.

South Africa 2010, World Cup fever has already hit, and the tournament was themed around the event, with each team given a country to represent.

Twenty-one teams took part and were divided into three groups, with each team playing their opponents once.

The top 2 teams and the top 2 teams in 3rd position went through to the World Cup knock out stage to fight it out for the coveted title of ‘Unofficial World Cup Winners’.

The organisers of the tournament had this to say, “This was our sixth tournament in four years to date and I feel it was our best one so far.

"The weather always helps, maybe it was too good on the day, but we had a lot of happy faces by the end of the day.

"We feel the whole day went very smoothly as everything was set in stone from the start and by having an intro at the start all teams knew how the day would go.

"We base our tournaments on being fun and different from the others. It’s not just about the football, but having a great day and creating a great atmosphere for everyone to enjoy.

"Our tournaments are unique. Everyone is so passionate about the World Cup and with the Flags, Hats, Face Paints and Noise makers we truly did bring the World Cup to Wimbledon for one day. Thank you to all the Teams for helping us create the Magic.”

Rachel Yankey from Arsenal and England Ladies made a guest appearance to chat to teams and present the awards to the winners.
