Nick Carle will not be playing in next month's World Cup after he was axed from the Australia squad.

The Crystal Palace midfielder did not play in Monday's friendly win over New Zealand and is now expected to complete his move to Sydney FC by the end of the week.

The Eagles are keen to get Carle off the wage bill but look set to lose a significant amount of the £1m they paid Bristol City for him two years ago, with reports in Australia claiming Palace are willing to let him leave on a free transfer.

Meanwhile, youngster Nathaniel Clyne is set to represent England U19 against Republic of Ireland tomorrow in the first of their European Championship qualifying games.

Noel Blake's team, which includes former Palace man John Bostock, also play Bosnia & Herzegovina on Friday and Ukraine on Monday in a bid to qualify for July's finals.
