Police in Wandsworth have carried out series of dawn raids in a crackdown on drug dealing and gang related activities.

The raids took place at eight addresses mainly in Roehampton, but also in nearby Battersea, and neighbouring Hammersmith and Fulham.

Detective Superintendent Gerry Campbell said: “The operation has been a big success and it marks the start of a concerted crackdown on knife crime, robbery, drug dealing and violence involving young people and those with gang connections.”

After compiling a list of addresses to target, eight arrests were made and there was a recovery of a quantity of drugs and cash.

Wandsworth Council leader, councillor Edward Lister, said: “The council stands shoulder to shoulder with the police in combating these criminal activities.”

Cllr Lister also added that the council is putting all its crime fighting resources at the disposal of the police, including any CCTV footage.

Cllr Lister says the council's housing department is now looking to take legal action against those involved in criminal activity who live in council owed properties.

It is hoped the police can continue to build a detailed picture of those involved in drug dealing and violent behaviour.
