Surrey children have been given access to 13 specially adapted sports wheelchairs, following a partnership between Hilton in the Community Foundation, The Lord’s Taverners and Sunbury Manor School.
Presented at Hilton Cobham by delegates from the Great Britain Wheelchair Basketball Association, the wheelchairs will allow the Sunbury school’s pupils, and children across the region, to play sports they would otherwise have missed out on.
Funds for the wheelchairs were raised at the Cobham Hilton’s Community Foundation’s ball, in aid of the Lord’s Taverners Disability Sports Appeal. A record £370,000 was generated; helping hundreds of young people with disabilities participate in sport.
Matthew Patten, chief executive of the Lord’s Taverners, said: "The Lord’s Taverners believe sport and recreation are vital to the development of all young people.
"These sports wheelchairs will offer Sunbury Manor School’s disabled youngsters the chance to take part in sport, improve their skills and enjoy themselves."
