A championship-winning rugby player round off the “perfect day” by proposing to his girlfriend on the pitch at Twickenham.

Simon Hall, 26, was part of the team from Teddington Rugby Football Club that won the national junior vase at Twickenham Stadium on Saturday.

The club beat Bramley from Yorkshire in the final and completed a season where they won all 30 games and clinched promotion to the London leagues.

And for Mr Hall it was all topped off when his girlfriend, 27-year-old Carly George, agreed to marry him after Saturday’s match.

He said: “It was a perfect day. You couldn’t ask for any better.

“We played, and won, a national cup final and to top it off I got down on one knee.”

Mr Hall said he had been planning the proposal for a little while.

“I had been thinking about it,” he explained. “We have been going out for nearly three and a half years.

“As soon as we won the London and south east vase final I started thinking about it and started to get things moving, buying the ring.

“I asked the coach if it was OK, I didn’t want to spoil anyone’s day, it was a team day and not about me but all the boys were really happy.

“When i knew we were rounding our season off at Twickenham I thought what better place to ask her to marry me.

“It was great season and the celebrations afterwards were even better - The Fox ran out of beer by 8pm.”

Mr Hall, who is a police officer based at Twickenham police station but lives in Chessington, added: “Everyone knew what was about to happen apart from her.

“I had all my friends and family there and all hers.

“She was really happy, she was so shocked, she couldn’t believe it although she has come down a bit now.”
