Crystal Palace ensured their Championship survival with a nervy 2-2 draw that relegated opponents Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

Goals from Alan Lee and Darren Ambrose looked to have clinched it for Palace but twice Wednesday equalised.

Lee gave Palace the lead after 24 minutes, heading in Ambrose's corner.

Leon Clarke equalised for Wednesday after Danny Butterfield's mistake on the stroke of half time.

Although Wednesday had more of the ball second half they struggled to break down a stubborn Palace, with Julian Speroni forced into one save of note from Luke Varney.

Ambrose then put Palace ahead again on the hour mark, side-footing home Sean Scannell's cross.

With four minutes left Darren Purse equalised again for Wednesday but it was not enough and Palace held on.

The match was marred by ugly scenes at the death as rival fans clashed on the pitch with some Palace players also being attacked.
