South Thames College hosted a regional battle of the bands contest in its brand new TV studios last Thursday.
Young musicians at the college competed against bands from other London colleges in the WorldSkills UK contest.
A band from Lewisham came in at first place, while two South Thames bands, Livewire and The Mixture, finished at joint second.
Their scores will be sent off to national judges, who will pick the top ten bands in the UK to take part in a final.
A college spokesman said: “It’s a great opportunity for the students.
"It’s not just about winning, it’s having the confidence to showcase their skills.
"It’s also preparing them to become music professionals in the future.”
The new TV studios opened at the Wandsworth campus in September.
