A major summit has taken place to discuss Lambeth’s strategy on tackling violence against women.

It is part of a surge in efforts in the borough to wipe out serious violence against women and girls including domestic violence, sexual violence, forced marriage, honour based violence, prostitution, stalking and trafficking.

The conference, attended by some 80 delegates, followed a pilot research project focusing on the extent of the problem in the borough, and how well Lambeth Council, the police and their partners are working to deal with it.

The summit examined the national agenda and key presentations were delivered by the Home Office, the Department of Health and the Women’s Resource Centre.

Delegates then focused on how Lambeth could drive the agenda forward at a local level.

Jo Cleary, Lambeth Council’s executive director for adult and community services, said: "Violence to women and girls is not acceptable. We must work together in partnership to strengthen our efforts to combat such violence.”
