By Community Correspondent Catherine Rowland With the General election looming not far around the corner, constituents based in Tooting and Streatham now hold the future of their community in their hands. Undoubtedly, you will have received a stream of pamphlets and leaflets through the door over the last few weeks from the three main parties in question: Labour, Conservative and Liberal Democrats. However, it is particularly important that Tooting constituents note that there is a closely contested seat between the Labour party and Conservative party. As it stands, the local council is strongly conservative, although could sway a different way in the upcoming local and General elections on Thursday 6th May. In regards to the general election, Tooting has been targeted as an area on the margin of swinging either to the Labour party or Conservative party. Currently, Labour MP Sadiq Khan is the parliamentary spokesman for Tooting and has been serving our community; although his position could always be taken over by Mark Clarke, the Conservative’s parliamentary spokesman. Either way, it is important that we watch the important election debates and come to a conclusion as to who to vote for in the general elections. It is important that the right people represent us.
