Wandsworth residents have until May 14 to apply for the next round of the council’s Eco Fund grant money, which is available to individuals and groups in the borough that can demonstrate good ways to become greener.

The council will give a share of £5,000 to those who can think of a way to reduce waste, increase recycling, cut the consumption of energy or resources, or improve the quality of the local environment.

A council spokesman said: “Successful applicants will need to demonstrate the effectiveness of their scheme, and it will need to be something that can be copied by others and which has an impact beyond their own household.

"They will also need to post regular updates on environmental website Project Dirt.

“Examples could include buying composting equipment or a garden waste chipper to be shared between a group of neighbours, or organising ‘give and take’ exchange days so that unwanted items are given away instead of binned.”

Successful applications so far have included composting equipment for the Roehampton University halls of residence and a potting shed for the Wix Primary School garden.
