A young couple have had an enforced extension to their Australian honeymoon after their flights home were cancelled due to the volcanic ash cloud.
Phillip and Kellie Drew, from Ridge Road, Sutton, were due to fly back on Wednesday after taking a belated two-week honeymoon.
Mrs Drew, 34, said: “We were travelling up north to a place called Monkey Mia last Friday when we heard about the volcano and the delays.
"It’s quite isolated up there so we didn’t realise how bad the situation was until we got back to Perth on Monday evening.
“Cathay Pacific told us the next available flight to London was May 14, which we said is not acceptable as we have to get back home for work.
“With any luck we might be able to get on a flight soon.
“At least we got our honeymoon. There must be thousands of people back home that have to cancel their holidays. I feel sorry for them.”
