A gunman who shot a fellow clubber in the face outside a Crystal Palace nightclub has been jailed for eight years.

Yayhe Ismail, 21, shot the 24-year-old with a BB gun following a fight as they left Dyjarns night club in Crystal Palace Parade on August 29 last year.

The victim was left with a metal pellet embedded in his mouth that cannot be removed.

Ismail, of Norbury Avenue, Thornton Heath, got the gun from his car moments after the scuffle between two groups of friends. He fired the gun at point-blank range shortly before 1.30am.

Police said the firearm - which was never recovered - was used "without hesitation".

Ismail was caught two weeks after the shooting by police who analysed CCTV footage. He was tracked down and arrested in South Croydon with the assistance of specialist police firearms officers.

He was originally charged with attempted murder, but pleaded guilty at the Old Bailey on March 17 to the lesser offence of GBH with intent to wound and possession of a firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence.

He was jailed on April 16.

Detective Sergeant Sean Stewart of Lambeth police said: “Even without the recovery of the weapon our investigation team have secured the prison sentence of this individual and will always work hard to ensure criminals do not get away with harmful behaviour in Lambeth.

"Special praise must be given to the victim for having the courage to attend court and be prepared to give evidence in this case.

"They have set an example that I hope others will follow."
