A talented young golf player who has been tipped to become the next Tiger Woods needs sponsorship to compete abroad.

Eight-year-old Enrique Dimayuga, from Epsom, is a gifted player, who currently plays for Horton Park Golf Club, and has recently finished at the top three in the HSBC Wee Wonders final in St Andrews, Scotland.

He now needs to raise £4,500 to be able to compete in the World Championships, in America and the European Championships.

Enrique’s coach, Brendan Howell, said: “We need to raise this money as soon as possible because the championships begin in August.

"It would be a shame if Enrique was to miss it because he is our most talented young player and we believe he has a bright future ahead of him.”

A pupil from Southfields Park School, Enrique spends most of his time, after school and during weekends, playing at Horton Park.

He said: “I started playing when I was two and it’s mainly after school that I go play. I like it very much.”

His mother is a nurse and his father has been made redundant during the recession, so he needs sponsorship to travel abroad and represent the UK.

Enrique said: “My dad got me into golf - he gave me a club and he didn’t know what it was, so I started from there and I would love to be a golfer one day.”

The club is organising an event to raise funds for Enrique’s trips where a team of professionals will take players around during a whole day, at £50 per person.

Anyone who would like to help Enrique, should send a cheque made to Brendan Howell to Horton Park Golf Club, Hook Road, Epsom, Surrey, KT19 8QG.
