June Whitfield CBE took to the steps of the New Wimbledon Theatre last week to cut the ribbon on the venue’s centenary open day.

The day was one of a number of events organised by the theatre to mark its centenary year.

Last Wednesday theatre fans could go backstage, take part in workshops, speak to the stars of the shows, see costume, sound and lighting displays and get involved in a pantomime exhibition.

Visitor Ruth Newton said: “It will be a long time before my daughter forgets “flying” over the stage, or even stops talking about it.

"I’ve been visiting New Wimbledon Theatre for around 25 years now and it was great to get an insight into what happens behind the scenes.”

Liz Bond added: “We felt very privileged having the opportunity to wander around such a fantastic building, making it truly a day to remember."
