Mark Tompkins says only Manchester United would tempt him away from High Road this summer after Chipstead secured their Ryman Division One South future this week.

Jason Thompson's double in last Wednesday's 2-1 win over Sittingbourne confirmed Chips, who then drew 1-1 with Dulwich Hamlet on Saturday, would escape relegation with two games left.

Tompkins has made no secret of his ambitions as a manager but unless he is asked to replace Sir Alex Ferguson, he won't be going anywhere.

"I definitely want to stay on," he said.

"The board know I am ambitious but I have no intention of leaving unless Manchester United come in.

"We have built up a good squad here and we can compete in this league.

"I'm over the moon that we stayed up.

"The most pleasing thing is we haven't had to rely on anyone else, we have done it ourselves and it means we can enjoy the last couple of games and have a look at a few players."

Chipstead failed to win any of their first 10 league games this season but had a good spells in December and February, before falling away again in recent months.

Tompkins reckons their inconsistency was down to the amount of personnel changes he made, so he is aiming for a settled squad for next season.

"What I have noticed in the last two or three games when we have had the same squad we have played more like a team," he said.

"Previously this season it's been very chop and change with injuries and players coming in.

"Our aim for next year then is to get a settled squad.

"I am planning to keep the squad I have got and only add a few players.

"I think they are good enough for this league.

"We are probably the lowest budget club in the league so I am not going to set a target but we would look to be mid-table in the league and maybe do quite well in the county cups."

Remaining fixture: April 24 Eastbourne Town (h).
