Tolworth was brought to a standstill this weekend, by a parade of more than 1,000 scouts who marched to honour their mythical dragon-slaying champion.

The Royal Kingston Scout District met on Sunday, April 18, for its annual St George’s Day Parade, where the borough’s scouts renewed their promise to do good deeds.

The event was attended by the mayor and deputy mayor of Kingston, councillors Ian McDonald and Shiraz Mirza and Edward Davey, MP for Kingston and Surbiton until Parliament dissolved, himself a former president of the Kingston Scout District.

John Eggitt, of the Kingston and Malden Scout and Guide Band, said: “The promise is renewed every year by both current and former members, because you become a scout for life from the moment you join.”

The award for most smartly dressed bunch was bagged by the second Norbiton Scout Group, declared winners of the Bridger Family Trophy, presented for high standards of appearance.
