Shop fronts in Streatham High Road are set to get a £200,000 facelift.
At least 14 shop fronts are to receive funding to restore interesting architectural features on their facades, thanks to the Lambeth Council cash.
Streatham town centre manager Angelina Purcell said she was working with landlords now to decide where would benefit from the makeover, but work was expected to start within weeks.
The boost for the high road comes as Mrs Purcell also announced £52,000 Government funding to help bring empty units back into use.
She has teamed up with Space Makers Agency - a social enterprise helping to get creative projects in to empty shops - to help bring short term arts projects into some of the high road's empty units.
It follows a successful scheme started in Brixton Village last year by the agency and Lambeth Council that saw a number of community, arts, theatre, and food projects able to set up in disused shops, rent free, for up to three months.
It has also seen a number of one-off music, drama and food-tasting events take place.
