That time of year is coming again. For Year 11s across the country, GCSEs are fast approaching. For many these are a cause of worry and stress, with school, homework and revision seeming to pile up, leaving little time for anything else. Furthermore, many people may find revision itself stressful, difficult and boring!
When revising it is important to find a technique that works for you, not everyone revises in the same way. It is also important to take breaks while revising, as you may lose concentration. Here are some revision techniques:
Flash cards: These are easy to make, and then you can use them to test yourself on key facts. They are also transportable, making it simple to revise anytime, anywhere.
Study Groups: As long as you are focused, a study group can work well, you can test each other and talk about the topics you find difficult.
Word Games: You can use word games to help you remember things. Mnemonics often work well. These are words, in which each of the letters stand for a key fact. Using words which mean something to you make revising much easier. For example with the word PARENTS:
Practise
Active
Repetition
Encourage
Notes
Time management
Stress management
Of course, parents and teachers can provide support at this difficult time, and you should never be afraid to ask for help. Good luck to everyone doing exams this summer.
