A Parish Council for Mitcham I attended recently a meeting to discuss the parlous state of Mitcham Cricket Club’s finances What occurred to me was, that here we have one of the oldest cricket clubs in the world with a superb ground at the heart of the community, and yet this resource is under used.

There are hundreds of young people nearby who might be interested in taking up this game, and the club has excellent training for colts of both sexes What was missing from this meeting were the full-time workers from the schools, health authorities and Merton Council, who all have a responsibility for encouraging local youngsters to lead a more active and healthy life.

It occurred to me that Mitcham sorely lacks a single forum to bring local public sector and voluntary workers together to benefit the area known as “Mitcham”

I suggest that after the coming local and General Election the local community discuss the possibility of creating such a forum perhaps in the form of a Mitcham Parish Council to help co-ordinate all the potential of Mitcham and its residents Peter Walker Siobhain McDonagh’s Campaign Team Figges Marsh
