Striker Kevin Terry reckons the play-off places are still within Leatherhead’s grasp despite the Tanners seeing their unbeaten run come to an end on Tuesday night.

The 1-0 home defeat to Walton & Hersham, in a game Leatherhead dominated, was their first loss in 13 matches.

But, with their Ryman Division One South play-off rivals all having slipped up themselves, Terry has urged his teammates to concentrate on securing fourth spot.

He said: “The great thing is that it is still in our own hands and whether we make the play-offs is all down to ourselves.

“We have three games left and they are all winnable and that is the way we have to approach it.

“We have been on such a good run it was a real surprise to lose on Tuesday night, but we have to make sure we stay positive.”

Mick Sullivan’s men were caught on the break at Fetcham Grove after wasting a host of great chances.

And, just days after Greg Andrews (two), Mark Simmonds and Jon Coke netted in a 4-0 win at Eastbourne, Terry insists it was simply a bad night at the office.

He added: “Against Walton we just did not take our chances and we got punished.

“We should have had the game sorted by half-time in my opinion.

“To lose like that was really disappointing but there is no point reading too much into it.”

Leatherhead travel to Sullivan’s former side Merstham this weekend as they look to sew up fourth spot and book a play-off spot to go with their recent Isthmian cup final triumph.

And Terry, who has battled hamstring and ankle injuries this campaign, reveals he still has plenty in the tank.

He added: “I still feel really fresh actually.

“I have had a lot of time out this season and in a way it feels like my season is just starting.

“I’m really looking forward to the play-offs and we just have to make sure we get there.”
