The skies over Streatham were filled with hundreds of strange craft on Sunday, as Streatham Common hosted its annual kite festival.

Kite-lovers of all ages came out in the sunshine to fly a range of kites ranging from tiny Hanuman kites - dubbed the smallest kites in the world - to huge 100ft long kites.

The largest kite on display was an immense giant octopus flown by the Brighton Kite Flyers.

Kite flyers from as far afield as Thailand visited to take part.

Festival organiser Bob Colover called the event "one of the best ever".

He said: "We were very lucky with the weather and delighted so many people came along flying their own kites."

Events included power kiting - when people are propelled along the ground in a buggy by the power of a kite - and an altitude sprint where participants try and fly a kite as high as possible in one minute.
