Staines Town lifted the Middlesex Senior Cup for the first time in 13 years with a 2-0 Easter Monday victory over Uxbridge at Wheatsheaf Lane.

Uxbridge nearly took a 10th-minute lead after Chris Gell prodded the ball around keeper Louis Wells, but Yado Mambo chased around and headed it out for a corner.

Louis Wells also made a couple of decent first-half saves while, at the other end, Andre Scarlett shot just wide and Leroy Griffiths’ shot was saved.

Staines took the lead five minutes into the second half - a screamer from Ali Chaaban which gave keeper Carl Dennison no chance.

Uxbridge tried hard to get back on level terms, but Dave Sargent’s ball across the goalmouth was just out of Ryan O’Toole’s reach.

Staines wrapped it up in the 66th minute when Howard Newton’s inswinging corner took a deflection of Uxbridge skipper Wayne Carter, which deceived his own keeper.

Onochie then forced a decent save out of Dennison, while Newton also shot over while.

Uxbridge created three decent chances in the final 10 minutes, but could not prevent Staines from lifting the Middlesex Senior Cup for the eighth time - the first knockout trophy won by boss Steve Cordery in his time in charge at Wheatsheaf Lane.
