A song written by a South Thames College music student was performed by a mass choir at London’s iGospel concert at the Queen Elizabeth Hall on Monday March 29th.
Ashley Williams’ song ‘Make a Change’ was written with the help of several South Thames students and is part of a three year campaign along with Wandsworth Council called project “Lifewise”, aimed at raising awareness of gun and knife crime in the area.
Williams hopes that her experience can inspire people to follow their dreams and stay off the streets. She said: “Stick at it, you need to love it to do it, but the more you pursue it, the better you get”.
As part of the initiative, Students have also toured local schools and community centres with theatre productions, produced a CD of original tracks incorporating anti-violent lyrics and produced an action plan to tackle the social cohesion problems that can contribute to violent crime.
