I am writing to support the movement that is demanding that the newly-elected Conservative council reopens Crosfield sheltered workshop for the disabled, as campaigned for prior to the election (Fisher turns his back on Crosfield promises, Croydon Guardian, May 17).
As a parent and carer of one of the unfortunate former employees,I asked family, friends and neighbours to support the Conservatives in the election, as they said Crosfield would be reprieved, if they took control of Croydon Council.
Councillor Margaret Mead took great heart prior to the election and during the consultation period in championing the Crosfield employees' cause for continuation. Where is she now?
The money being used to support the employees after the closure would be far better used in re-equipping and re-opening the workshop.
Come on Croydon, show the rest of Great Britain what you are made of and make the lives of our disabled community far happier as well as the voters who thought you were going to do the correct thing.
