A second hand car salesman who tampered with the mileage of vehicles has been fined almost £2,000.

Anthony Derick Jacklin, 53, was found guilty at Croydon Crown Court of selling and offering to sell cars which had had their mileage altered.

Jacklin, who traded as Warlingham Car Sales in Limpsfield Road, Sanderstead, denied the charges and disputed owning the business which now no longer trades.

The jury heard that an inspection revealed two cars had the odometers turned back and a further check on the company website revealed another car had been clocked'.

A fourth car sold to a consumer was also found to have been tampered with.

The court was told Jacklin of Fairford House, Kennington Lane, Kennington, failed to check the previous history of the cars he was selling.

He pleaded not guilty to four counts of offering to supply a motor vehicle with a false trade description.

He was found guilty of three counts and not guilty on one count. He was fined £200 each on two counts and £400 for another and ordered to pay £500 compensation and £500 costs.
