Marzia Nicodemi-Ehikioya may not have won a seat with her 1,083 votes in Shirley but the independent candidate narrowly missed out on a shock win.
Dr Nicodemi-Ehikioya who was standing as an independent for the first time came fourth behind the three winning Tories and above Labour, Liberal Democrat and Green Party candidates.
She also polled more than any individual Green Party, UKIP, independent or BNP candidate standing for election in Croydon.
