Two young girls were violently robbed by a man claiming to be a mini-cab driver in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The 19 and 21 year-olds from Croydon were left lying on the roadside injured after accepting a ride from outside the Blue Orchid Nightclub, Croydon.
Police say the girls took what they believed was a mini-cab and on the way home asked to stop at a 24-hour petrol garage.
The driver pulled up in Selsdon Park Road near an Esso station, ripped the front passenger's chain from around her neck, opened the door and threw her out of the car. As her terrified friend got out of the back seat, the driver pulled away, hurling her onto the road.
Police say the two woman were lucky to not have been killed.
The driver is described as black, around 5ft 5ins tall and with a deep foreign accent.
He was wearing a multi-coloured shirt. Information to DC John Bagnall at South Norwood CID.
