The borough's environmentally-friendly helped make this year's National Spring Clean in Croydon a record-breaking success.
More than 1,500 adults, teenagers and children participated on various activities on 35 sites around Croydon including school grounds, residential areas, common land, parks, woods and nature areas. Emphasis was placed on recycling and much of the success of the campaign was put down to the community spirit. Schools, businesses, residents' association and voluntary groups all did their bit to fight the war with litter. Staff from B & Q joined with Friends of South Norwood Country Park to spring clean the park. Pupils at Coulsdon primary schools united with the 8th Coulsdon Brownies to clean up the area's open spaces.
