A free information and counselling service for teachers has received a £1,728 donation from Croydon Council.

The 24-hour national phone service supports 17,000 teachers a year. More than 550 teachers in Croydon have been helped by the service since its launch six years ago, calling about work-related and personal issues.

Councillor Louisa Woodley, cabinet member for education, youth and lifelong learning, said: " We have many ways in which we support staff in our schools but we recognise the benefits of a national advice line dedicated to helping teachers by offering confidential advice from experienced coaches."

Staffed by trained counsellors with education expertise the service is confidential. Call 0800 056 2561 or visit www.teachersupport.info.
