He may date strippers and be nicknamed the Butterscotch Stallion, but broken-nosed Texan Owen Wilson is personally a little surprised he isn't married and settled down by now, writes Robin Walker.

Maybe the character he plays in his latest comedy The Wedding Crashers gives a clue Owen plays a divorce mediator who likes to gatecrash weddings to pick up love-struck singletons.

"I always thought I'd be married and have kids by the time I was 30," admits the 37-year-old.

But the member of Hollywood's self-styled Frat Pack' admits keeping relationships has been a bit of a problem. His last girlfriend was reportedly a burlesque dancer at a Los Angeles nightclub and his most high profile break-up was with Californian rocker Sheryl Crow.

"The story of our relationship is the same story I've had with most of my relationships," he says about Crow.

"I was lucky enough to find a great girl and because of my lack of focus the relationship went south.

"You shouldn't be with someone unless you're prepared to be really honest about whether you're going to be exclusive."

Well known for his southern charm and penchant for comedy, the likeable Texan's film career is chugging along nicely. Wedding Crashers is a typical outrageous comedy to follow hits like Meet The Fockers and Zoolander.

Along with friend and collaborator Vince Vaughn, Owen turns up uninvited at weddings to target single women feeling a bit left out. Unfortunately his character breaks the rules of wedding crashing and really falls for one of the bridesmaids, daughter of a powerful politician (Christopher Walken). A wild weekend at the family's palatial estate quickly gets out of hand.

"It's about crashing weddings and picking up girls," says the Shanghai Knights and Starsky And Hutch star. "It's the idea that girls might be sort of good-to-go at weddings."

While neither will admit to actually crashing weddings themselves, both Owen and Vaughn have been the groom's sidekick at weddings where the marriage failed.

"I was best man at my older brother's wedding and he got divorced," says Owen. "Basically if you want to jinx your wedding, ask one of us to be your best man."
