Muggles beware. Wizards and broomsticks will be out on the streets of Croydon this Friday as they await the release of the latest Harry Potter book.

At midnight Waterstone's and WH Smith in the Whitgift Centre will open for fans to buy copies of J K Rowling's eagerly-awaited sixth book, Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince.

The storyline is being closely guarded but it has been revealed that one of the main characters will die.

Upper Norwood library in Westow Hill has ordered extra copies of the bespectacled wizard's latest adventure so that readers will not be disappointed.

Up to 50 copies of the book will be available to take out on loan from 9am Saturday on a first-come first-served basis.
