I was very surprised to see you printed my letter (Croydon Guardian, July 6) about our son Charlie but pleased as it brings some much needed awareness about his condition.

Our son Charlie has been in a Star band for six weeks now and we could only have done this thanks to someone giving us a large donation.

There are three conditions: plagiocephaly, brachycephaly, which Charlie has, and scaphocephaly.

There are various causes for these conditions.

For anyone concerned about their child's head shape there is a great website where parents, who all in the same boat, make a great support group where they can find advice and help.

The site is at http://groups.msn.com/PlagioUK. It's run by a mum whose child had brachycephaly and plagiocephaly.

Although we were extremely lucky to have been given help, there's still the underlying problem that many parents are being told there's nothing that can be done.

Charlie's head has grown six millimetres since being in his Star band and you can see the massive difference. The NHS is wrong to say nothing can be done, as there is.

There are extreme cases of these conditions which have gone uncorrected and these children are left with lifelong deformities.

There is treatment available so anyone in the NHS reading this please stop dragging your feet, if it was your child what would you do?
