Businesses will reap the benefits of London's successful Olympic bid.

Tony Hart, Croydon Business' town and district centre director, is sure Croydon can take advantage of the lucrative opportunities that will emanate from the games.

He said: "I didn't think I would see something like this happen in my lifetime. But it's absolutely fantastic news for the whole of London."

Mr Hart is confident that with the 2012 Games coming to London, proposed developments, including Croydon Gateway and the proposed East London Line extension, will be given the all clear for work to commence.

He said: "I think news of the successful bid will kick-start some of the developments planned for Croydon, particularly the transport extension plans, namely the East London Line and Tramlink extensions."

He added: "There is a huge opportunity with all the developments in the stream, if we get in the right position we will reap the benefits more than anyone. If the arena is used as a training facility, it will give people a reason to come into Croydon and it will put Croydon firmly on the map, said Mr Hart, "which will benefit the whole of Croydon."
