Striders of Croydon produced another good team performance to win their annual inter-club cross-country relay at Lloyd Park last Wednesday.

Justin Macenhill gave them an excellent start on the first leg, leading the field home and covering the four-kilometre course in 14 minutes 41 seconds, which was the fastest time of the day.

Veteran Bob Ewen ran the second leg and held Striders' lead with 15 minutes 31, which was the sixth fastest time of the day.

Tony Sheppard, making a welcome return to racing after a long absence through injury, consolidated Striders' lead on the final leg, running 15 minutes 26 which was the fourth fastest time of the day.

Striders' time of 45 minutes 38 seconds saw them finish 46 seconds clear of second-placed Beckenham, whose fastest runner was Eric Crane (15.01). Collingwood placed third in 49.41, their fastest runner being Dan Gillett (15.00).

The fastest woman was Striders' Serena Stracey (17.51), with Collingwood's Melanie Johnston second (18.53) and Striders' Kerry Backshell third (18.55).
