I, too, remember Kennards as a child.
I remember the ponies, which, incidentally, I was never allowed to ride on as my mother thought it was totally upsetting to see the poor little ponies giving rides all day.
Plus she also hurried me past the zoo, which was situated in the arcade. No animal rights in the 1930s.
I should point out to Mrs Lai (Croydon Guardian, January 12) that the arcade ran between North End and Frith Road. Does anybody remember the tea dances in the Blue Room? Delicious cakes were served.
